Book Talk: Richard Kurin

On Thursday, October 22, the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, in partnership with the Smithsonian, will host Richard Kurin, Smithsonian Distinguished Scholar and Ambassador-at-Large, at 6 p.m. at the Old Capitol Museum. Kurin’s latest work, History by a Hair: Thomas Jefferson, Sally Hemings & Solving a 200-Year-Old Mystery, tells the story of a light red hair found in Thomas Jefferson’s Bible and its implications for the 200-year-old controversy surrounding the paternity of the children of Sally Hemings, one of hundreds of African Americans enslaved by Thomas Jefferson. Copies of History by a Hair will be available for purchase, and a book signing will be held before and after the program. For more information, call 601-576-6850 or email info@mdah.ms.gov.
