History Is Lunch: Jamila Minnicks and Jasmine Holmes, "Black Settlements and Moonrise Over New Jessup"

At noon Wednesday, February 12, author Jamila Minnicks and Jasmine, MDAH education and outreach manager, will present “Black Settlements and Moonrise Over New Jessup” as part of the History Is Lunch series. This Wednesday program will explore Black settlements like Mound Bayou and their historical significance and the challenges of researching African American genealogy. This program will take place in the Craig H. Neilsen Auditorium of the Two Mississippi Museums and will also stream live on the MDAH Facebook page and YouTube channel.

History Is Lunch: Juanita Hollinghead, "Beyond the Green Widow: Consequence of the Piney Woods Creek Murders of 1921"

At noon Wednesday, March 19, Juanita Hollinghead, educator and researcher, will examine her grandfather's murder during the Prohibition period as part of the History Is Lunch series. Hollinghead's book Beyond the Green Widow: Consequences of the Piney Woods Creek Murders of 1921 explores the responses to Prohibition in two small Mississippi towns: Leakesville and Richton. Collection Tour

Join us Thursday, February 20, 11 a.m. at the Two Mississippi Museums to embark on a behind-the-scenes tour of the MDAH Historic Objects Collection led by Nan Prince, MDAH director of collections, and Hong Li, MDAH collections manager. Attendees will meet in the lobby of the Two Mississippi Museums. Space is limited to the first twenty-five attendees. Registration is closed. Sunday Screening Short Films Showcase

Join us for Sunday Screening: Short Films Showcase at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 16, in the Craig H. Neilsen Auditorium of the Two Mississippi Museums. This showcase will feature “Hotaru,” “(I'm Not) Your Negroni,” and “Our Rebellious Hearts.” All three short films are collectively under an hour and explore themes of identity, change, and resilience. Mississippi Historical Society Annual Meeting

The annual meeting of the Mississippi Historical Society will take place March 6–7 in the Craig H. Neilsen Auditorium of the Two Mississippi Museums. Judge Carlton W. Reeves of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi is this year’s keynote speaker. The Book of the Year Award will go to Wright Thompson for The Barn: The Secret History of a Murder in Mississippi.

MLK Weekend Celebration

Join us at the Two Mississippi Museums to celebrate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. on Tuesday, January 21, on the National Day of Racial Healing. Lunch will be provided before two panel discussions—one celebrating John Perkins' contribution to civil rights and racial healing and the other exploring the role of philanthropy in community transformation. This program marking the National Day of Racial Healing, an initiative spearheaded by the W.K.

MLK Night of Culture

Join us at the Two Mississippi Museums to celebrate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, January 20. This free admission day, sponsored by FedEx, will include a performance by New Horizon Church Children’s Ensemble at 10 a.m. and gallery talks by Freedom Rider Hezekiah Watkins at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum. The day will also include MLK Night of Culture at 6 p.m., hosted by Vicksburg native Alexis Noble.
