History Happy Hour: Architecture

Enjoy History Happy Hour at 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 24, at the Two Mississippi Museums! Focusing on architecture in the state, this event features free admission, free food from Aplós, a cash bar (Two Mississippi Museum members will receive a complimentary drink), miniature models of historic Mississippi structures, and a live performance from Bill and Temperance. Participate in our Mississippi architecture-themed trivia for the chance to win a prize! Architects can receive a free drink ticket with ID. Sunday Screening of Rising Hope

Join us for a screening of Rising Hope Sunday, September 8, at 2 p.m. in the Craig H. Neilsen Auditorium at the Two Mississippi Museums. This 101-minute film introduces the Mississippi Delta through powerful narratives, exploring themes of generational poverty, historic oppression of Black Mississippians, post-NAFTA job losses, and the impact of underfunding public education. Rising Hope also highlights residents’ resilience and the roles of religion, nonprofits, and education in their fight for a better future.

History Is Lunch: Fergus Bordewich, "Grant, the KKK, and the War for Reconstruction in Mississippi"

At noon on Wednesday, October 2, Fergus Bordewich will present "Grant, the KKK, and the War for Reconstruction in Mississippi" as part of the History Is Lunch series. The program will take place in the Craig H. Neilsen Auditorium of the Museum of Mississippi History and Mississippi Civil Rights Museum building and stream live on the MDAH Facebook page and YouTube channel. Book sales and signing to follow.

#WeltyatHome: The Robber Bridegroom and The Ponder Heart.  Readers are invited to tune in with Suzanne Marrs, Eudora Welty's friend and biographer, at noon for an online discussion of Eudora Welty’s novels, The Robber Bridegroom and The Ponder Heart. This series will continue weekly on Mondays, September 16, October 7, October 14, and October 21. There will be a brief pause in this program on September 23 and September 30.
