Historical Society Meeting March 5–6

The Mississippi Historical Society (MHS) will hold its annual meeting Thursday, March 5, through Friday, March 6, in Cleveland.

Duke University English professor Jarvis McGinnis will present “From the Mississippi Delta to Panamá: The Curious Case of The Cotton Farmer Newspaper.” University of Kansas professor Dave Tell, author of Remembering Emmett Till and winner of the McLemore Prize for the best Mississippi history book for 2019, will deliver the conference’s keynote address.

Panel discussions about the Civil War, the civil rights movement, Southern culture, religion, and even professional wrestling will take place. Archivists will host a Preservation Roadshow, and attendees are encouraged to bring objects and records for evaluation. The annual awards luncheon will be held at noon on Friday, March 6, at Delta State University.

The cost is $60 for MHS members and $85 for non-members, or $85 for MHS members and $110 for non-members after February 21. Register online at www.mississippihistory.org.
