History Is Lunch: Marlee Bunch, Jordan Stempleman, Christopher Span, and Joyce Ladner, “Oral Histories: Black Female Educators in Mississippi’s Civil Rights Era”

A panel will discuss the lives of Black female educators who taught before and after desegregation at noon on Wednesday, May 27, as part of the History Is Lunch series. Panelists include Marlee Bunch, interdisciplinary educator; Jordan Stempleman, associate professor at the Kansas City Art Institute; Christopher Span, dean of the Graduate School of Education at Rutgers University; and Joyce Ladner, civil rights activist. Bunch’s book, Unlearning the Hush: Oral Histories of Black Female Educators in Mississippi in the Civil Rights Era, highlights the personal stories of women who guided students through Jim Crow laws and Civil Rights-era desegregation. This free event will take place in the Craig H. Neilsen Auditorium of the Two Mississippi Museums and will stream live on the MDAH Facebook page and YouTube channel. Copies of Unlearning the Hush will be available for purchase, and a book signing will follow. For more information, call 601-576-6850 or email info@mdah.ms.gov
