For 76 years, Pulitzer Prize–winning author Eudora Welty
lived, entertained, and wrote her stories in her Jackson home. A National Historic Landmark since 2004, the 1925 Tudor Revival welcomes history buffs, book lovers, and visitors of all kinds—just as it did in her lifetime. The Mississippi Department of Archives and History interprets the home to 1986, when Welty was still actively writing and traveling. Since opening to the public in 2006, the Welty House has drawn visitors from throughout Mississippi and the world.

Welty’s gift of her home, and her family’s gift of many of its contents
to the Mississippi Department of Archives and History make the site one of the most intact literary homes in the country. Visitors can tour Welty’s home, complete with her books, artwork, and furnishings, and experience the life of one of the most acclaimed authors of the 20th century.

On a tour, each room reveals its own stories
of the experiences that shaped Welty’s relationship with writing, creativity, and the arts. Explore the famously tattered set of Dickens and treasured gifts from authors she admired—all displayed amid her extraordinary collection of books.
