Monday–Friday, July 8–12, 9 a.m.–noon at the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians. Discovery Week: Time Travel Challenge. Children ages 8–10 will join a village to learn about the lifeways and survival skills of the Natchez Indians and French colonists in the 1700s. Hands-on activities will include stickball, pottery and bead making, cooking, orienteering, archery, and archaeology. Cost is $50 per child and space is limited. Registration ends June 28. Monday–Friday, July 15–19, 9 a.m.–noon at the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians. Discovery Week: Time Travel Challenge. Children ages 5–7 will learn about historic Natchez Native American life and culture through crafts, projects, and activities that include pottery, jewelry, musical instruments, masks, games, and storytelling. Thursday, July 18, 6–7 p.m. at the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians. Speaker Series: Battlefield Project. Lance Harris, site director of the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians, will discuss the work of past archaeologists and their interpretations of the Grand Village site. Vin Steponaitis, professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will discuss archival research and more recent interpretations of Grand Village. Tony Boudreaux and Stephen Harris of the Center for Archaeological Research will discuss the National Park Service American Battlefield Protection Program (ABPP) grant and the work being conducted at Grand Village.
