Virtual Classroom Visits

Now offering virtual classroom visits. Knowledgeable staff members can give presentations on the Welty House, lead classroom discussions of Welty's works, and answer student questions. Eudora Welty House & Garden staff will work with you to provide each class with a tailored experience that best fits your lesson plans.

Scholastic Writing Awards

The Eudora Welty House & Garden partners with the Eudora Welty Foundation to host the annual Scholastic Writing Awards. Students in grades 7–12 from any public, private, or home school in Mississippi may submit original work in nine categories.

CRAFT OF WRITING DVD

A free DVD of rare films of Welty reading “Why I Live at the P. O.,” “A Worn Path,” and “Petrified Man;” an interactive CD of Welty manuscripts, correspondence, and photographs related to the stories; and a teacher’s guide.

Each year, the Eudora Welty Foundation, Millsaps College, and the Eudora Welty House & Garden host a continuing education unit workshop, usually on a Friday in February, featuring Welty biographer Dr. Suzanne Marrs, and Millsaps College Professor Dr. Michael Pickard.

Research Fellowship

The Eudora Welty Research Fellowship

Applications are accepted each year for the Eudora Welty Research Fellowship. This $5,000 fellowship, established by the Eudora Welty Foundation and the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, is awarded annually to a graduate student for research using MDAH’s Eudora Welty Collection.

The Eudora Welty Collection

Research the most extensive collection of Eudora Welty materials in the world.
The Eudora Welty Collection is managed, housed, and made available for research by the Mississippi Department of Archives and History at the William F. Winter Archives and History Building in Jackson, Mississippi. With materials dating from 1882 to 2001, the collection includes manuscripts, correspondence, photographs, negatives, drawings, film and video footage, essays, reviews, ephemera, awards, and honors. It is one of the most varied literary collections in the United States.
