Museums To Host Fall Teachers Workshop

August 21, 2018

The thirty-third MDAH Social Studies Teachers Workshop is set for Friday, November 2, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Two Mississippi Museums in Jackson.

This year’s workshop is themed “Challenge and Change” and presentations will cover using primary sources in the State Archives, professional development opportunities with National History Day, the new Mississippi social studies curriculum, the Mississippi Civil Rights Movement, and the Vietnam War. Two Mississippi Museums education curators will introduce brand-new educational materials recently developed by the Mississippi Department of Archives and History.

"We are delighted to relaunch our fall teacher workshop and have them at the Two Mississippi Museums for the first time," said MDAH education director Al Wheat. "Teachers understand that these museums are an extension of the classroom, but this provides an opportunity to show them the vast resources of the department while hosting incredible guest speakers that will enhance teacher content knowledge."

The cost is $60 in advance ($80 at the door) and includes lunch and admittance to the Two Mississippi Museums. A .6 CEU credit is available through Mississippi College. Register online here. For more information, email outreachprograms@mdah.ms.gov or call 601-576-6997.

The Social Studies Teachers Workshop is sponsored by Mississippi Department of Archives and History in conjunction with the Mississippi College School of Continuing Education, Mississippi Department of Education, and Mississippi Historical Society.
