Thursday, May 30, 6 p.m.–7 p.m. at the Two Mississippi Museums. Shackles From the Deep: The Henrietta Marie. Award-winning journalist Michael Cottman will discuss his book Shackles From the Deep: Tracing the Path of a Sunken Slave Ship, a Bitter Past, and a Rich Legacy. The book details the four years he spent researching the origin of the Henrietta Marie, retracing the route of the slave ship, and diving to the sea floor to explore the vessel’s remains.

Cottman will sign books at 5:30 p.m., and his presentation will begin at 6. Spirits of the Passage: the Story of the Transatlantic Slave Trade—a special exhibit exploring the Henrietta Marie—will will be free and remain open until 8 p.m. There is no charge to attend the program, which will be held in the Craig H. Neilsen Auditorium at the Museum of Mississippi History and Mississippi Civil Rights Museum.
