Friday, November 1, 8 a.m.–3:30 p.m. at the Museum of Mississippi History and Mississippi Civil Rights Museum in Jackson. MDAH will host the 34th Social Studies Teachers Workshop. Concurrent sessions will be held throughout the day. Highlights include a presentation from staff of George Washington’s Mount Vernon, and a tour of Jackson’s significant sites in the Civil Rights Movement led by Robby Luckett, director of the Margaret Walker Center at Jackson State University.

The cost is $60 in advance and $80 the day of. The first 100 applicants will receive a $30 scholarship funded by George Washington’s Mount Vernon to go towards their registration fee. Included is lunch and admission to the Two Mississippi Museums. Earn 0.7 CEUs for an additional fee. Friday, November 1, 5–7 p.m. at the Eudora Welty House & Garden. Book Signing with Cassandra King Conroy. Bestselling author Cassandra King Conroy will discuss her latest memoir, Tell Me a Story. The book recounts her relationship with her husband, Pat Conroy, a legendary figure of modern Southern literature. Book signing will begin at 5 p.m., and a presentation and reception will follow. Saturday, November 9, 10–11 a.m. at the Eudora Welty House & Garden. Storytime on the Porch: A Fall Fairytale. Parents and children are invited to the side porch of the Welty House for free, fall-themed fun. We'll read from a popular fairytale, make a seasonal craft, and offer activities for ages 3 to 9 at 1119 Pinehurst Street in Jackson. Sites include the Governor’s Mansion, Old Capitol Museum, Mississippi State Capitol, Manship House Museum, Eudora Welty House and Garden, and the Two Mississippi Museums—the Museum of Mississippi History and Mississippi Civil Rights Museum. Admission is free.
