The Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation Collection comprises approximately thirty cubic feet of material from the Public Affairs Office of Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation (MFBF) divided into series. The collection documents changes in Mississippi farm practices and land use from the late nineteenth through the early twenty-first centuries, as well as the institutional history of MFBF from its inception during the Great Depression. The collection also shows the effects of natural disasters on agriculture; health and safety issues (lifesaving and fire prevention techniques); visiting politicians, including several U.S. Presidents; and the evolving roles of women in society. Images can be accessed through keyword search or by browsing within each series.

Collection Description
The Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation Collection contains a variety of formats: audio, film, newspapers, and photographs. The vast majority of the collection is black and white still photography (photographic prints, slides, and negatives) with color slides and prints produced in later years. The materials were collected by MFBF from three administrative units: American Farm Bureau Federation, Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation, and Southern Farm Bureau. Many of the images were taken for MFBF’s publications Mississippi Farm Bureau News, Mississippi Farm Bureau Country, and Mississippi Farm Bureau Producer.
Provenance
The collection was donated to MDAH by the Jackson Public Affairs Office of Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation in February 2010. Processing and digitization of the images was funded by Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation, with curatorial, administrative, and technical support from MDAH.
